Hello People. In one of my previous articles named ‘5 habits you should quit like right now’ I have explained about procrastination. Now I’ve been reading and researching about why people procrastinate despite knowing the fact that the work they are procrastinating for is very important. What keeps people for doing what is important to them?

You know that mindset of people when they have to go to the gym, and suddenly they become tensed, and they feel uncomfortable going out because it’s too cold out there or they just don’t want to. They even trick themselves by thinking that they went to the gym yesterday, it will not be a big of a deal if they don’t go today. So, where this type of mindset comes from?

Fortunately I found a book named ‘War Of Art’ written by Steven Pressfield. According to him, there is a psychological force works against the human mind; it is called “Resistance. It is described in a mythical fashion as a universal force that has one sole mission: to keep things as they are.

It is always there, whatever you want to do, building a start-up, work on your painting, go the gym etc, and resistance will always be there. Whenever we have to leave a comfortable situation, our body and mind will automatically resist that change and would send a signal to stop doing that, until ofcourse you finally come to your senses.

Even with the celebrities, when they have to go to the stage to perform, they will be nervous and a part of them would not want to go, even if they have decades of experience. It is resistance, that doesn’t means they would not go to the stage, of course they would because, now they have mastered the art of resisting the resistance. The more you do it, the more you get really good at it.

You just have to break past that situation, because the moment you put on your shoes to go the gym, or take the brush in your hand to paint, something will change and everything will happen automatically and the resistance will go away. After that you will realize that it wasn’t that big of a deal.
